Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa

Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalifa Al Khalifa has been serving as the Chairman of the Company’s Board of Directors since June 2018 as a representative of Mumtalakat Holding Company. He was re-appointed at the AGM in 2020 as a Non-Executive Independent Director and re-appointed at the AGM in 2023, for a period of 3 years.

Shaikh Abdulla is the Chief Executive Officer of Mumtalakat Holding Company. He previously served as Chief Executive Officer of Osool Asset Management, the investment arm of the Social Insurance Organization and the Military Pension Fund, which manages around USD12 billion across different asset classes globally. He started his career as a credit analyst at Arab Banking Corporation and was Head of Wealth Management at Standard Chartered Bank, Bahrain. He has more than 23 years of experience in the Banking and Financial Services Industry.

Shaikh Abdulla is currently the Chairman of Edamah and a Board Member of Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB). He also previously served as a Chairman of SICO Investment Bank, Deputy Chairman of the Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK) and has held Board positions in both financial and non-financial institutions. Furthermore, Shaikh Abdulla is the Chairman of BTC Sure Group Company (UK).

Shaikh Abdulla was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the George Washington University, USA.

Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa has been serving on the Company’s Board of Directors since June 2018, as a representative of Amber Holdings Company. He was re-appointed at the AGM in 2020 and 2023 as a Non-Executive Independent Director for a period of 3 years.

Shaikh Ali graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from The George Washington University, D.C., USA, and earned a master’s in business administration from DePaul Graduate program at the BIBF, Bahrain. He earned a Master of Arts in Defense Studies from King’s College, London.

He joined the Bahrain Defense Force in June 1996 and currently holds the rank of Colonel. He has held various positions within the organization during his 27-year tenure.

Shaikh Ali has also been involved in the Kingdom’s sporting initiatives over the years and holds various committee positions including President of Bahrain Football Association, Member of Asian Football Association Executive Committee, Member of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, President of Bahrain Cycling Association and Member of FIFA Competitions Committee.

Additionally, Shaikh Ali is the Chairman of Beyon Cyber W.L.L. and Bahrain Network (BNET).

Mr. Abdulla Abdulrazaq Bukhowa

Mr. Abdulla Bukhowa has been serving the Company’s Board of Directors since 2020 as a representative of the Social Insurance Organization (SIO). He was elected by the shareholders at the AGM in 2023 as a Non-Executive Independent Director for the period of 3 years.

Mr. Bukhowa currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain Commercial Facilities Company since July 2021. Mr. Bukhowa holds a Bachelor of Business from the University of Texas, USA. Previously, Mr. Bukhowa held the role of Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank, Bahrain, established in 1920 as the first bank in Bahrain and the Arabian Gulf region. He also held the role of Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank in Doha from January 2017 to March 2019. He was responsible for leading and implementing the overall strategy of the Bank.

Mr. Bukhowa joined Standard Chartered Bank in September 2010 as Bahrain’s Country Head of Global Markets and co-Head of Wholesale Bank. In December 2014 he was given the responsibility for leading both the Financial Markets and Corporate and Institutional Banking segments.

Mr. Bukhowa has over 21 years of experience which includes being Head of Portfolio Management at the Central Bank of Bahrain, and roles at Reuters and Bahrain Telecommunications Company (Batelco). He is currently a Board member in the Bahrain Association of Banks, Future Generations Reserve, National Motors Company, and Tasheelat Insurance Services (TISCO). He is also the Chairman of Umniah mobile Telecommunications in Jordan.

Mr. Ahmad Mazhar

Mr. Ahmad Mazhar was appointed to the Company’s Board of Directors as a Non-executive Director at the AGM in 2023 as a representative of Mumtalakat Holding Company for a period of 3 years.

Mr. Mazhar joined Mumtalakat in February 2022 as Executive Director – Strategic Investments. He has over 15 years of experience in private equity with a strong track record in sourcing, executing, and managing portfolio companies across a diverse range of industries in MENA, Southeast Asia, and Sub-Saharan Africa. Over the course of his career, he has worked closely with management teams and held key board positions across multiple organisations.

Prior to holding this role, Mr. Mazhar was a Managing Director at Helios Fairfax Partners (HFP), overseeing new investments and portfolio management for the Southern Africa region.  He also served as an interim Chief Restructuring Officer of AFGRI Group, a portfolio company of HFP and one of the largest Agri services company in Southern Africa.  He has also held various positions at several international organisations such as the Abraaj Group, Fairfax Africa Holdings and Emerging Capital Partners.

Mr. Mahzar holds an MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurship from the University of Pennsylvania, The Wharton School, and a BEng in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Mr. Mazhar is a Board member of Prime Magnetics Holding S.L. and Bahrain Flour Mills.

Mr. Ahmed Abdulwahed Abdulrahman

Mr. Ahmed Abdulrahman has been serving on the Company’s Board of Directors since March 2020. He was re-elected by the shareholders at the AGM 2020 and 2023 as a Non–Executive Independent Director for a period of 3 years.

Mr. Abdulrahman has over 20 years of experience in Investment Banking, Mergers & Acquisitions and Private Equity, gained from working with leading financial institutions in Bahrain & UK. He has served on the board of over 40 companies globally, including Bahrain Financing Company (“BFC”), and has held a number of board positions which include chairmanships to the board and Investment committees.

He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Esterad Investment Company (Listed on BHB) a diversified investment company established in Bahrain in 1973 with activities in Real Estate, Private Equities, Listed Equities and Fixed Income and is also the acting Chief Executive Officer of Venture Capital Bank. Mr. Abdulrahman also serves as an independent board member of Native Land Investment in the UK, and as a Director at Beacon Capital Management, a boutique Private Equity and Asset Management firm out of London.

Prior to Esterad, Mr. Abdulrahman served as the Founder & Managing Partner of Clan Partners Advisory, a Bahrain based boutique advisory firm, and previously also served as the CEO and Managing Director of Beacon Capital Management. Prior to Beacon, Mr. Abdulrahman served as the Head of Private Equity for GCC, Levant and Turkey at Bank Al Khair (formerly known as Unicorn Investment Bank). He also has prior working experience in Ahli United Bank as a Relationship Manager – Offshore Unit, Relationship Manager – Corporate Finance and Venture Capital at Kuwait Finance House – Bahrain and started his career at BDO Jawad Habib as an analyst in the Financial Advisory Services unit. He holds a bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Business Systems & Information Technology from University of Northumbria, Newcastle, UK.

Mr. Abdulrahman is the Deputy Chairman of the Board and Chairman of the Audit Committee in Dhiraagu Telecommunications Company (Maldives), Vice Chairman of Venture Capital Bank B.S.C closed, and a Board Member in Goknur Gida listed Turkish Company in Borsa Istanbul.

Dr. Daniel Ritz

Dr. Daniel Ritz was appointed to the Company’s Board of Directors as a Non-executive Director at the AGM in 2023 as a representative of Mumtalakat Holding Company for a period of 3 years.

Dr. Ritz is currently the Spokesperson of the Management Board at WALTER GROUP, a Vienna-based, privately held conglomerate active in the fields of road freight, mobility solutions, leasing and real estate.

Prior to joining WALTER GROUP in 2023, Dr. Ritz held leadership positions in the telecoms industry for 20 years, including CEO of Tele Columbus (Germany), CEO of PTCL (Pakistan), CSO of Etisalat Group (UAE), CSO of Swissom Group (Switzerland) and Chairman of the Chief Strategy Officer Group of GSMA. He began his professional career at Boston Consulting Group (BCG) where he rose to Partner & Managing Director.

During his tenure in the telecoms industry, Dr. Ritz also held various Non-Executive Director positions at listed and privately held companies, including Maroc Telecom (Morocco), PTCL (Pakistan), Thuraya (UAE), Fastweb (Italy) and BICS (Belgium).

Dr. Ritz earned a Master’s Degree and a Ph.D. in Business Administration, both from the University of St. Gallen (Switzerland) and was a visiting Ph.D. student at Harvard Business School (USA). He also serves as a Board member in Bahrain Network (BNET).

Ms. Fatema Ghazi Al-Arayedh

Ms. Fatema Al-Arayedh has been serving on the Company’s Board of Directors since March 2020 as a representative of Mumtalakat Holding Company. She was reappointed in 2023 in the AGM as a representative of Social Insurance Organization for a period of 3 years.

Ms. Al-Arayedh is an International Counsel at the law firm of Debevoise & Plimpton LLP in New York. Her legal practice focuses on corporate and financial transactions, including advising private equity and venture capital fund sponsors, sovereign wealth funds and institutional investors on their investment management arrangements. Ms. Al-Arayedh also has experience in a wide range of acquisition finance, project finance and other corporate finance transactions, including leveraged buyouts and joint ventures in the telecommunications and technology sectors.

In addition, Ms. Al-Arayedh serves on the Panel of Conciliators at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) at the World Bank Group.

Prior to her legal career, Ms. Al-Arayedh worked on economic development projects at the Clinton Foundation in New York and at the Economic Development Board in Bahrain.

Ms. Al-Arayedh holds a B.A. with honors in Political Science from Yale University and a J.D. from Columbia Law School, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. She is admitted to the Bar in New York.

Mr. Abdulla Ahmed Kamal

Mr. Abdulla Ahmed Kamal is the Chief Executive Officer of Osool, which manages approximately 10 billion USD across different asset classes globally.

Mr. Kamal has over 21 years of experience in the financial sector and investment operations. Since joining Osool in 2014, Mr. Kamal has held several leadership positions and played a major role in Osool’s success. Mr. Abdulla currently serves on several boards; he is the Chairman of SICO Investment Bank, Chairman of Amlak Real Estate Company,  and Chairman of Osool Pension Fund. Additionally, he is a Board Member of Bahrain Marina Development Company.

Mr. Kamal graduated from the University of Bahrain with a BSc in Accounting, and he is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) UK, and the Institution of Internal Auditors (IIA) USA, Additionally, he is a Certified Associate Professional Risk Manager (APRM).

Mr. Saleh  Romeih

Mr. Saleh Romeih was appointed to the Company’s Board of Directors as a Non-executive Director at the AGM in 2023 as a representative of Mumtalakat Holding Company for a period of 3 years.

Mr. Romeih has over 30 years of experience in Investment banking at the Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs and most recently as the Managing Partner responsible for the Softbank Vision Fund.

Mr. Romeih is the Global Managing Partner for Safanad, he leads all capital formation activities of the firm and chairs the firm’s operating partners group. At the Vision Fund, he was a member of the investment committee, head of the operating group (over 250 portfolios companies) and closely managed the firm’s strategic relationships in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.  

Mr. Romeih is currently a member of the Board of Advisors of Georgetown McDonough School of Business. He also serves as a Board Member in Beyon Money Bahrain.

Mr. Romeih graduated from Georgetown University and holds an MBA from The University of Pennsylvania.

Brig. Gen. Waleed Bin Hindi – Director

Brig. Gen. Waleed Bin Hindi was appointed on the Company’s Board of Directors as a Non-Executive Independent Director at the AGM in 2023 as a representative of Amber Holdings, for a period of 3 years.

Mr. Bin Hindi is the Commander of the Royal Communications Unit with the rank of Colonel in Bahrain Defense Force. He graduated from the Military College of Kuwait in 1989. He participated in Cybersecurity courses and joined various courses in and out of Bahrain, including communications courses throughout his years in the communications unit. He also joined the Royal Jordanian Command and Staff College (RJCSC) in Jordan.

Mr. Bin Hindi holds a Bachelor of Business Management from the University of Mutah, Jordan.

Mr. Bin Hindi represents the Kingdom of Bahrain / Bahrain Defense Force in many strategic military telecommunication projects for the Gulf Cooperation Council. He has also been part of various committees both in the Kingdom of Bahrain and as a representative of the Kingdom at meetings abroad, within the telecommunications sector, working on civil and military matters and developments.

Mikkel Vinter

Mikkel Vinter leads the executive team of Beyon, across its operations in Bahrain, the Middle East Region and internationally, having joined Batelco in 2019, as its Chief Executive Officer.

With over 20 years’ experience in the telecommunication industry holding executive roles, he has a wealth of knowledge and experience. Mikkel has a broad international background with experience from telecom operators in the Middle East, Asia & Europe, including several Greenfield mobile start-up operations. Among his previous roles, he founded Virgin Mobile, Middle East & Africa in 2006 and served as its Chief Executive Officer until 2016.

Prior to setting up Virgin Mobile Middle East & Africa, Mikkel served as Chief Commercial Officer for Nawras in Oman leading all the commercial activities from before the launch until Nawras was successfully established with a 20%-plus market share. His previous roles also include senior positions with TDC in Denmark and Singtel in Singapore.

Mikkel is a member of the Board of Directors of Umniah Mobile Company PLC, Sure Limited and Dhiraagu (Dhivehi Raajjeyge Gulhun PLC) where he is also on the RNG (Remuneration, Nomination and Governance) Committee. He is also a member of the Al Waha Fund of Funds, Limited Partner Advisory Committee.

Reem Altajer

Reem Altajer was appointed to the role of Beyon CFO in May 2023, having held the GM Finance role at Batelco since 2022.

Having joined Batelco in 2004, Reem has gained extensive experience through a number of roles including Internal Audit Manager, Subsidiaries Finance Manager and Director of Treasury, Planning and Assurance. Prior to Batelco, she worked with Ernst & Young as an external auditor.

Reem holds a Fellowship of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales, and is a Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Investor Relations Officer.

Maitham Abdulla

Maitham Abdulla was appointed as Batelco CEO in March 2024 with responsibility to lead the Batelco executive team in developing and growing the telecommunications services for the government, enterprise, global connectivity, and consumer sectors.

Previously, Maitham was Chief Operating Officer of Batelco Bahrain and prior to that held the role of General Manager of the Consumer Division.  He brings over 15 years of experience in mobile & fixed telecom, connectivity solutions, Data Centres, and content services. Maitham has also been instrumental in driving the ongoing digitisation of products & services to elevate customer experience.

He has a long track record of achievements including leading the introduction of Fiber to the Home in Bahrain, the first introduction of TIII Data Centers in Bahrain, the commercial launch of 5G and the many transformational strategic programmes.

Maitham has an MBA in Marketing & Business Management from Al-Ahlia University and a BSc in Management Information Systems from NYIT as well as a number of professional qualifications in leadership and the telecommunication domain.

Shaikh Bader bin Rashid Al Khalifa

Chief Communications & Sustainability Officer

Shaikh Bader has over 25 years’ experience across diverse fields including People Management, Communications, and Sustainability which serve him well in his role as Beyon Chief Communications & Sustainability Officer.

Previously, Shaikh Bader held several managerial and executive roles in Batelco, having joined the company in 2010.  In his current role, he is responsible for Beyon’s Corporate and Marketing Communications, Beyon Creative Lab, and Sustainability Functions.

Prior to Batelco, Shaikh Bader worked in Aluminum Bahrain (Alba), where he led the Human Resources and Communication functions.

Shaikh Bader holds a BA in Business Administration from New England College and Master of Science in Management from Boston University, USA. He also completed leadership and executive development programmes in the Leadership Trust (UK), and Harvard Business School.

Buddhadeb Samanta

Buddhadeb Samanta was appointed as Chief of Internal Audit for Beyon, having held the role of Head of Internal Audit with Batelco since 2019.

His responsibilities include leading the Internal Audit department to assess effectiveness of internal controls, efficiency of business processes across all functions and governing the implementation of the organization-level risk management framework and systems.

He has over 20 years of experience in the international telecommunication industry and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Beyon.

Among his previous roles, he served for four years as Chief Internal Auditor of Smartfren Telecom (Indonesia), held a number of roles over seven years with Du Telecom (Dubai) including the post of Director Internal Audit, and additionally worked in various roles over ten years in India with Tata Teleservices, Vodafone and Price Waterhouse Coopers.

Buddhadeb holds Chartered Accountant qualifications from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and holds a bachelor’s degree in Commerce from St Xavier’s College, Calcutta University.

Christopher Hild

Chief Strategy Officer

Christopher Hild, in his role as Chief Strategy Officer, is driving the development and execution of a group strategy for Beyon.

Christopher joined Batelco mid-2019 to develop a new strategy for the company following the separation of Batelco and BNET.

With over 14 years of experience in strategy development and execution, Christopher’s previous roles include senior positions in strategy consulting, leading projects related to digital transformation, customer experience, topline growth, operational excellence and cost optimization, for a number of telecom operators in the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Asia.

Prior to that, Christopher held senior Corporate Strategy roles with an international large-scale industrial company based in Germany, and additionally for Europe’s leading BPO provider, focusing on customer experience for telecom operators.   

Christopher holds a BA in Public Management & Governance from Zeppelin University, Germany.

Faisal Al-Jalahma

Chief Human Resources Officer

Faisal Al-Jalahma is responsible for developing Beyon’s HR strategy with a focus on employee centricity and evolving Beyon to be Bahrain’s employer of choice.

Prior to his current role at Beyon, Faisal held the CHRO role at Batelco. Faisal began his career with Batelco as a graduate trainee in the HR Department where he gained wide experience and knowledge of all aspects of the HR field.

In 2012, Faisal moved to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) where he held various roles including Director of Finance, Information Technology and Human Resources. The role included transformational projects to digitalize and automate systems at the TRA. Faisal was also a key player and a member of the Steering Committee for the 4th National Telecommunications Plan (NTP4).

Faisal holds an MBA from the University of Strathclyde, UK and several executive qualifications from Harvard Business School and Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Isa Alsabea

Isa Alsabea was appointed as Beyon Chief Investment Officer in March 2024, having served as Director of Mergers and Acquisitions for Beyon since joining the Company in 2020. He is responsible for driving the strategy and execution of Beyon’s investments, mergers and acquisitions.

Isa has 15 years of experience in mergers and acquisitions, and investments gained in multiple investment banking, private equity, and corporate M&A roles.

Prior to joining Beyon, Isa worked as an investment banker at UBS Investment Bank where he held various positions in London and Dubai, most recently serving as a Director of Middle East Investment Banking. In this role, he was responsible for advising corporate and financial clients on a broad range of mergers, acquisitions and capital markets transactions. Isa started his career as a private equity analyst at Arcapita in 2009.

Isa holds a MSc (Distinction) in Economics from the London School of Economics and BA (Hons) in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Balliol College, University of Oxford.

Miguel-Angel Fuentes

Acting Chief Legal Officer

Miguel-Angel Fuentes, in his role as Acting Chief Legal Officer takes responsibility for all legal and regulatory matters for the Beyon group of companies.

Miguel-Angel joined Batelco in September 2017 as Group General Counsel, legal and regulatory and was later appointed as Associate General Counsel Corporate of Batelco.

His experience includes 12 years in a number of senior legal roles within Zain Group, in Africa and the Middle East. Prior to this, he was Legal and Regulatory Director at Intercel Madagascar, and he worked as an independent consultant in telecommunications regulation for clients such as the IFC.

From his years of extensive and wide-ranging experience as a corporate lawyer, Miguel-Angel has a strong knowledge of key areas including mergers & acquisitions, telecommunications infrastructure deals, and digital business.

Miguel-Angel has a Master’s degree in French and Spanish Corporate Law / European Law from the University of X-Nanterre, France. He also completed an Executive Management Programme with Witts Business School, South Africa.

CEO Beyon Digital Growth

Shaikh Mohamed, as CEO Beyon Digital Growth, has a remit to invest in and develop the Beyon portfolio, aiming to grow the company’s technology footprint in scale and scope.

Having joined the company in January 2020 as the Chief Digital Growth Officer, Shaikh Mohamed  played a key role in the creation of Beyon’s portfolio of digital companies.

Prior to Beyon, Shaikh Mohamed was Head of Strategic Projects, and of ICT Business Development at the Bahrain Economic Development Board where notable focus areas of his role revolved around public and private sector cloud adoption, Blockchain, startups and enhancing infrastructure development across the GCC. Previously, Shaikh Mohamed was advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Shaikh Mohamed holds a bachelor’s degree in politics from the American University, Washington DC and an MSC in Middle East Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies, UK. In addition to his mandate with Beyon, he is also a Board member of Binance, Bahrain Internet Exchange, Bahrain Polytechnic, Solidarity Group, and an ambassador of the GBBC (Global Blockchain Business Council).

Chief Technology Officer

Saurabh Gupta, as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Beyon, is responsible for Networks, IT and Cybersecurity and driving new Technology developments and capabilities throughout the Beyon group, to support ongoing digital transformation.

Saurabh held the CTIO role at Batelco, having joined the company in 2020. Prior to joining Batelco, Saurabh worked with Vodafone for over eight years across UK, Germany, and Czech Republic where he held the role of Chief Information Officer. Previously, Saurabh spent over 10 years with Unilever in India and the UK in a number of technology delivery and management roles. The extensive experience he gained across the diverse roles and geographies provides Saurabh with a wealth of relevant knowledge and expertise.

Saurabh holds a degree in Engineering from IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Roorkee and did his post-graduate in Management at IIM (Indian Institute of Management) Ahmedabad. Additionally, he completed the Technology Excellence Programme from Imperial College Business School London.
