Manama, Bahrain: The Gulf Cooperative Council (GCC) Sustainability Innovation Hub, of which Beyon is a proud member, today announced release of its first white paper in coordination with GSMA Intelligence.   The report which is titled Green Shoots: a new model for renewables from the GCC,  addresses renewables in telecommunications with benchmarking data and forward analysis outlining the steps operators must take to reduce carbon emissions to reach their net-zero objectives by 2050. This historic partnership aimed to foster collaboration, share best practices, and work collectively to drive sustainability initiatives across the region.  The Innovation Hub serves as a central platform for testing and developing new sustainability solutions tailored for the telecom industry. This initiative underscores the operators’ commitment to innovation and cooperation in tackling environmental challenges.

The publication of this white paper marks a significant milestone for the GCC telecom sector. It not only showcases the collective achievements of e&, Beyon, Du, STC, Zain, Ooredoo and Omantel in the realm of sustainability but also sends a powerful message to solution providers worldwide: the GCC telecom operators are eager to collaborate and innovate towards a sustainable future.

Speaking on the occasion, Beyon Chief Communications & Sustainability Officer, Shaikh Bader bin Rashid Al Khalifa said, “The white paper developed in collaboration with GSMA is the result of years of industry experience coming together with the technological capabilities and resources that the GCC alliance members bring to the table.  We hope this white paper is the first of many initiatives which reflects the collective vision and unity of GCC telecom operators towards paving the way for a sustainable future within the sector.  By fostering such examples of cooperation and driving shared innovation, the GCC Sustainability Innovation Hub has the potential to significantly accelerate efforts and facilitate the adoption of sustainable practices, equipping us all to make great strides in our ambition of achieving net-zero emissions.”
